LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A group of students from colleges and universities around Michigan, called Strike Down the Shutdown, plans to demonstrate at the State Capitol Friday to advocate for the repeal of the most recent emergency order issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
“We believe Governor Whitmer’s mandate undermines our First Amendment right to peaceful assembly by restricting gatherings in the home, outdoors, and in educational institutions,” said Strike Down the Shutdown Spokesman Nick Treglia.
The demonstrators plan to assemble outside of the State Capitol building in Lansing Friday at 4:00 p.m.
Organizers say the event, similar to April’s Operation Gridlock but on a smaller scale, will be peaceful.
Michigan College Republicans is helping to organize the event.
