LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan health officials Thursday reported another 134 deaths from coronavirus, with 61 of those deaths added during a review of records. That brings the death toll in the state to 8,324 since March.
Information on the state’s COVID-19 tracking website shows 7,592 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Thursday, bringing the total to 285,398.
State officials said three times a week, the staff at Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reviews records that identify COVID-19 as a cause of death. They then match the records with laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Information as of last Friday showed a total of 138,862 people in Michigan had recovered from the virus. A patient is considered recovered when they are clear of the disease 30 days after initial onset.
As of Monday there have been 12,449 confirmed cases among residents in long-term care facilities in Michigan, with 3,018 deaths.
Thursday’s numbers show 145 deaths in Kalamazoo County, 104 in Calhoun County, 112 in Ottawa County, 29 in St. Joseph County, 22 in Branch County, and only 18 in Allegan County.
