GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – All things considered, Tuesday’s election ran smoothly, according to Ottawa County Clerk/Register of Deeds Justin Roebuck.
He said during a Wednesday appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town” that the final, unofficial numbers were complete around 5:30 AM, but a technical glitch prevented them from being displayed on the county website for over three hours. “We started the day with 43 percent of our voters already having participated,” Roebuck explained. “When you think about that, in a normal or general sense, it would have resulted in fewer folks coming into the precincts, but I think that the interest was high, the turnout was very high, and overall, it was a very busy day.”
Over 75 percent of registered voters cast ballots on Tuesday in Ottawa County, and Roebuck admitted that his office had to have a local printer draw up three thousand additional ballots at mid-afternoon to meet the demand – this after ordering “110 percent of our ballot quantity” – due to a number of voters deciding on Election Day to “spoil” their absentee ballot and cast their votes in person.
