LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — State officials have announced traffic crash numbers as of Tuesday, September 22.
Twenty six people died on Michigan roads over the last week. That’s a total of 730 this year from traffic crashes, and 58 more fatalities compared to this time last year, despite this year’s stay-home order that kept many people off the roads, after the COVID-19 pandemic hit Michigan.
Another 143 more people were seriously injured, a statewide total of 3,597 to date — and 348 fewer serious traffic crash injuries compared to last year.
These statistics are compiled by the Michigan State Police and released by the Michigan Department of Transportation on a weekly basis to raise traffic-safety awareness.
