BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Dr. Jill Biden is making stops in West Michigan.
The former second lady and wife to Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden tpured Kids’ Food Basket in Grand Rapids around 11 a.m. Tuesday. She was joined by Democrat Hillary Scholten, who is running for the 3rd Congressional District seat.
WOOD-TV was live at her visit in Grand Rapids, where reporters asked if Michigan will see more stops from Biden, as Michigan is now considered a battleground state.
“We’re traveling to all the different states, and I’m sure I’ll be back here again,” Biden said to WOOD-TV. “I’ll be back virtually again, I’m sure. We’re taking no vote for granted.”
More information on that stop can be found here.
Biden then headed to Battle Creek around 2 p.m. Tuesday, where she was joined by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to participate in a listening session with military families.
According to MLive and The Battle Creek Enquirer, Biden listened to these families to learn more about what kind of issues they face. It was largely reported that military families would like to see improvements in veteran health care, along with better education.
Better mental health care for veterans was also discussed.
“If I have the honor of serving as your first lady, one of my most important priorities will be making sure our veterans and our military members and the caregivers and survivors have what you need,” Biden said at that stop.
Governor Whitmer also touched on the presidential race with reporters from the Battle Creek Enquirer.
“This is a high stakes election, people who put their lives on the line to protect others have not gotten the support that they need in the last four years, and I know a Biden administration will be there and will support our families who are risking everything to take care of the rest of us,” she said to the Enquirer.
This comes as Joe Biden visited southeast Michigan last Wednesday and President Trump was in Saginaw County back on Thursday. On Monday, Donald Trump Jr. campaigned for his father’s reelection in Macomb County. He was joined by Kid Rock at Bumpers Landing Boat Club in Harrison Township.
The Saginaw County rally in particular drew criticism from Governor Whitmer, who told WOOD TV that the events are in violation of her Executive Orders.
