KINCHELOE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Inmates at a men’s prison in the Upper Peninsula took control of a housing unit for about five hours on Sunday night and Monday morning.
The overnight incident at the Chippewa Correctional Facility started when three prisoners got into a fight.
When officers responded, a taser was deployed on one of the prisoners who was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and later turned back over to the Michigan Department of Corrections.
After the ambulance with the tasered inmate left, other inmates left their cells and approached an officer station but the officers were able to get to safety.
All of the inmates were reported to be secured in their cells at about 4:00 a.m..
