DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Mitch Trubisky threw three fourth quarter touchdown passes as the Chicago Bears rallied to beat the Detroit Lions 27-23 in the season opener at Ford Field Sunday.
Chicago trailed 23-6 entering the fourth before outscoring the Lions 21-0 the rest of the way. Jimmy Graham, Anthony Miller and Javon Wims all had TD catches for the Bears. David Montgomery and Tarik Cohen combined for 105 rushing yards on just 20 carries in the victory.
Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford finished 24-of-42 for 297 yards, one TD and a fourth quarter interception which led to Chicago’s winning score. Adrian Peterson had 14 carries for 93 yards in his Detroit debut, while D’Andre Swift had a rushing score. Swift dropped what would have been a go-ahead touchdown in the waning moments.
The Lions play at Green Bay this Sunday.
Veteran linebacker Jamie Collins was ejected early in the second quarter in his Lions’ debut for making contact with an official.
Pro Bowl wide receiver Kenny Golladay and cornerback Jeff Okudah, the third overall pick in the NFL draft, were on the Detroit inactive list with hamstring injuries.
