DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Jedd Gyorko hit two of the five home runs for the Milwaukee Brewers in a 19-0 rout of the Detroit Tigers Wednesday.
Ryan Braun, Tyrone Taylor and Jacob Nottingham also went deep as Milwaukee earned a split of the two-game set. Luis Urias added three hits and five RBI in the victory. Corbin Burnes struck out 11 over seven innings of one-hit, scoreless ball as he moved to 3-and-0.
Matthew Boyd was rocked for seven runs in three frames as he fell to 1-and-6. The Tigers gave up 21 hits. Willi Castro had the only two hits for the Tigers, who have lost six-of-eight.
Detroit is in St. Louis for a doubleheader today to make up games postponed last month.
Tigers starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann has been reinstated from the 45-day injured list. Zimmermann had been sidelined with a right forearm strain. He will make his 2020 debut in the second game of today’s doubleheader against St. Louis. Detroit also called up pitcher Nick Ramirez from Toledo and optioned pitchers Kyle Funkhouser and John Schreiber to the taxi squad.
Tigers outfield prospect Daz Cameron made his Major League debut in yesterday’s loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Cameron was called up to replace Christin Stewart who was optioned to Toledo on Tuesday night. He did not participate in Summer Camp and opened the season on the injured list after testing positive for Covid-19.
Cameron is the tenth player to make his MLB debut in Detroit this season and is the son of Mike Cameron, who played in the Majors for 17 years.
