MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WTVB) – Ryan Jeffers smacked his first career home run in a four-run third inning as the Minnesota Twins topped the Detroit Tigers 6-2 Monday in Minneapolis.
Eddie Rosario added a three-run double later in the third. Byron Buxton also went deep for the Twins, who took two-of-three in the series and have won six of their last seven overall. Michael Pineda struck out eight over seven innings of two-run ball for his first win of the season. Detroit has dropped five-of-six.
Michael Fulmer allowed four runs in less than three frames to suffer the loss. Detroit was held to three hits. Willi Castro and Jorge Bonifacio each had an RBI.
The Tigers are now 18-and-21 on the season and are still in contention for a wild card playoff spot.
Detroit will host the Milwaukee Brewers in the first of a two game series at Comerica Park tonight. Spencer Turnbull gets the start in the opener for Detroit, while Milwaukee counters with Adrian Houser.
The Tigers will send Matthew Boyd to the hill against Brewers starter Corbin Burnes tomorrow afternoon.
