HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – School bells rang for the first time in Academic 2021 at two Lakeshore public school districts on Wednesday.
At Holland Public Schools, there will be in-person classroom education, but about 18 percent of parents and guardians – comprising approximately 600 students – are opting for online education in one form or another, according to Superintendent Dr. Brian Davis.
“I’m really working to make these decisions (about holding classroom education) based upon the best information available each day,” Dr. Davis said during a paid district interview that aired on “WHTC Morning News” on Wednesday. “Certainly we take guidance from the Governor and her medical staff, and the epidemiologists that are informing her. We’re working very closely Dr. Paul Heidel and his staff at the Ottawa County Department of Public Health, and each day I’m monitoring the cases on the Ottawa County website.”
Hamilton Community Schools also scheduled the start of classes on Wednesday, with Zeeland and West Ottawa targeting next Tuesday for their first day of school, and both Fennville and Saugatuck planning to begin student education on September 8th.
