WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – As the stalemate on another coronavirus relief package continues in Washington, the blame game is in full swing.
After a meeting on Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin accused Democrats of having no interest in negotiating a coronavirus relief package, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claims the White House won’t budge from their position and that “people will die” if stalled talks drag into late September when government funds are set to expire.
All this posturing is just “gamesmanship,” according to Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga of Zeeland. “Quite honestly, it’s hilarious that Speaker Pelosi would say that the White House isn’t willing to budge,” he said on “WHTC Morning News” during his weekly interview on Thursday. “Frankly, the updates that a number of us members have gotten (have given us) a lot of concern about how far the White House is willing to go on some of these negotiations and what they’re willing to negotiate on.”
The House is scheduled to return for votes in mid-September but majority Democratic leaders have told members they could be called back sooner if there’s agreement with the White House on a stimulus package.
