CHICAGO, IL (WTVB) – Major college football and other fall sports could be in jeopardy. ESPN reports Power 5 conference commissioners held an emergency meeting Sunday, with growing concern over the ability to play due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Meantime, the presidents of Big Ten schools reportedly met Sunday night to discuss pushing the football season back to the spring. No word yet on an outcome of that meeting.
But in a move likely seen as a precursor to moving the football season to the spring, the Big Ten is forbidding teams from holding padded practices until further notice. The Big Ten announced the move Saturday saying full-contact practices were ending, and teams would only be allowed to hold helmeted drills for the immediate future.
Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren said he is in favor of postponing the season until the spring.
