ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The August 4th election may be history now across most of Michigan, but for four precincts in the City of Holland, the ballot box may still be open.
For the nearly one thousand voters who participated in last Tuesday’s election, two county-wide questions were left off of the ballot. Proposals for the Allegan Conservation District Millage and the Allegan Medical Care Facility Millage apparently were not printed up when the rest of the ballot was printed, and with both of those measures failing by less than 200 votes, the four Holland precincts may determine the final fate of those proposals.
The “aggrieved elector” who brought the omission up before County Clerk Bob Genetski, and subsequently to the County Board of Canvassers, was none other than County Board Chairman Jim Storey. “The medical care facility has been a part of our fabric in Allegan County for well over a hundred years,” the Holland Republican said on “WHTC Morning News” during a Monday interview. “The conservation district would be a definite plus for the county, given our strong agricultural background.”
Once wording on the Storey’s request is approved by the Canvassers, Genetski’s office has five days to mail the special ballot to those in the four Holland precincts who participated in the August 4th election, and those voters would then have five days to fill out that ballot and return it to the city clerk’s office.
