GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two Holland men were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday morning south of Grand Haven.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christie Wendt, a minivan, driven by a 50-year-old Holland man, was in the right lane of northbound US-31 near Pierce Street around 6:30 AM when it apparently swerved in front of a sedan in the passing lane, driven by a 19-year-old Grand Haven man and hit the break, causing the sedan to lose control. “Evidence at the scene shows that, at some point, the vehicles made contact with each other,” Wendt said in a statement from the department. “The (van) rolled over several times before coming to rest in the ditch on the east side of the roadway.”
The van driver and a 20-year-old passenger were taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital for treatment of what Wendt described only as “non-life threatening injuries,” while the sedan motorist was not hurt. It took over an hour to investigate the crash and clean the scene up, causing traffic to merge into one lane.
No names were disclosed. Wendt said that anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department as the investigation into the crash continues.
