ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – When scheduled classes begin in Zeeland Public Schools on September 1st, the district expects to have plans in place for in-person and virtual instruction.
Letters were sent to parents and guardians of students on Tuesday afternoon about those plans, which hinge on where Michigan is at in terms of the COVID 19 situation. As of now, classroom education will take place, but if the Governor “turns up the dial” again to deal with an increase of coronavirus cases, Zeeland schools will be more ready for online lessons than it admittedly was this spring, according to Superintendent Cal DeKuiper.
When asked how virtual learning went for ZPS students, “The answer is, ‘it fizzled,’” the educator said on “WHTC Morning News” during a Tuesday interview. “It started pretty strong, people were engaged for a few days or a few weeks, but by the end of about eight weeks, we were down to minimal participation.”
During Monday’s monthly meeting, the Zeeland Board of Education approved a refinancing part of separate bond issues from 2012 and 2014 to save up to $1.9 million dollars. Two and a half years ago, a similar refinancing save the district about $1 million.
