HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 59-year-old Otsego man died in a single-car crash just after 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2020, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Christie Wendt.
Police, called to Chicago Drive, just west of Port Sheldon Road in Georgetown Township, found the man had been driving a Chevrolet Express van east on Chicago.
A witness told police the van had been driving in the passing lane, then attempted merging into the driving lane.
But the van continued to the right shoulder, then off the road, hitting several trees. The driver, pinned in the van, was extricated by Georgetown firefighters. He was declared dead at the scene.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factor in the crash, according to police. Traffic was reduced to one lane for the safety of investigators.
