CASCO TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Fire tore through a residence north of South Haven on Monday evening.
Members of South Haven Area Emergency Services went to a home in the 100 block of Blue Star Memorial Highway around 8:45 PM. A resident there had attempted to start a recently purchased generator, but it had burst into flames. Unable to phone for help, the resident drove a mile to the SHAES fire station to report the incident.
When the firefighters arrived at the dwelling, the blaze had spread into the house and through the attic. With help from the Ganges Township Fire Department, the fire was brought under control.
There were no injuries reported. The family cat, believed to have perished in fire, survived.
