HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — Distracted driving is to blame for a three-vehicle crash in Georgetown Township that sent a Jenison couple to the hospital, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s authorities.
Police, called to the scene, on Baldwin Street near Cottonwood Drive, just before 2:30 Sunday, July 19, 2020, learned a 20-year-old Allendale man was driving a 2010 GMC Sierra, and, as he later told police, he took his eyes off the road to check Snapchat on his phone, and to adjust his radio.
But he lost control of the Sierra, which hit a 2010 Ford Focus with a 71-year-old Jenison woman at the wheel. She had an 80 year old male passenger.
The Sierra went off the road north of Baldwin Street, hit four construction barrels on the sidewalk, hit a road sign, then the Focus, sliding across Baldwin and going over the curb, into a Walgreen’s parking lot, where the Sierra hit a parked vehicle.
The Jenison couple went by ambulance to an area hospital. Their injuries are not considered life threatening, according to police.
