HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 32-year-old Holland man was shot during a fight near Holland’s Washington Sqaure and hospitalized Thursday, July 16, 2020. The shooting is believed to be gang-related.
Holland Police Capt. Robert Buursma said police were called to the scene of a group of people fighting at about 2:45 p.m. As police arrived on the scene, people were dispersing. Police were talking to stragglers when shots rang out on 18th Street, just west of Washington, Buursma said.
Police and other witnesses believe the shots came from a vehicle on 18th Street, aimed at two people on the sidewalk near the corner.
The victim, who suffered five gunshot wounds, went by ambulance to Holland Hospital and was transferred to Spectrum Health Butterworth, where his condition is unclear at this writing.
Buursma said there is no suspect in custody a as of about 5 p.m. Thursday, but no apparent danger to the public.
