HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The Allegan County Health officials have reported a seventh death from COVID-19. This is after about two weeks with a stable death count and increased testing. Ottawa County’s death toll remains at 51.
On Wednesday, July 1, 2020, Allegan County officials issued a statement to media encouraging residents to protect loved ones and themselves during the Fourth of July holiday weekend and other planned summer celebrations.
People practicing safe steps to reduce the chances of getting or spreading COVID-19. After a drop in case counts, the numbers of people with COVID-19 have started to rise, leading to Gov. Whitmer’s order to stop inside service at bar and other health-related limits.
“Areas in Michigan have seen a surge in COVID-19 cases; yet if our community commits to wearing face coverings in public spaces, excellent hand hygiene, and social distancing, we can continue to slow the spread of the virus in our community,” said Allegan County Health Officer Angelique Joynes, MPH, RN. “Research has shown that the more community members practice these actions, the transmission of this virus decreases.”
Allegan County’s recommendations for gatherings:
- Keep gatherings small and follow the executive orders.
- Mak sure areas are cleaned and disinfected, before and after use.
- Meet outside.
- Mindful distanc. Keeping six feet apart from others outside your household.
- Eat outdoors. Consider getting takeout from your favorite places.
- Wear a mask, if possible.
- Wash or sanitize hands often.
- Do not share food, drinks, or other items. For small gatherings, have everyone bring their own snacks or serve food with single-use utensils.
- Avoide large crowds outdoors and indoors. If social distancing cannot be maintained, facemasks are strongly encouraged.
