HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland Harbor Lighthouse Historical Commissioner Nicki Arendshorst spent part of her day Wednesday calling media to announce some changes to this year’s fireworks event.
The show, set for dusk Saturday, July 4, 2020, off the south pier near Holland State Park, is a joint effort by the commission and the David and Carol Van Andel Family Foundation.
Usually the public is invited to Macatawa Park to enjoy this patriotic display Arendshorst said, but not this year, thanks to a combination of high water, a smaller beach and social distancing needed to avoid Covid-19.
The only people allowed on Macatawa Park’s beach will be residents or renters from Macatawa Park, the Cottages at Point West and members of Eldeans Marina.
Any invited guests must show the gatehouse staff the pass that’s been emailed to all residents, renters and marina members.
Organizers of the annual show say they hope to make the beach available to the public next year. This year, Arendshorst said, people who can’t access the Macatawa Park — or Holland State Park, which closes at 10 p.m. Saturday — are welcome to see the show from another vantage point along the shoreline, or from their own boat.
