HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A single car crash sent a 14-year-old boy to the hospital Friday, June 26, 2020, and police believe rain was a factor.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Nicholas Knott said it happened just after 8 p.m., when a 16-year-old Dorr boy was driving a 2004 Mazda and carrying a 14-year-old boy from Ludington. They had been southbound on 32nd Avenue in Jamestown Township, just south of Riley Street, when the driver lost control of the car.
Police said the Mazda started to hydroplane during a heavy downpour, and the car hit a tree about 40 feet off the road.
The passenger went by Life EMS ambulance to Spectrum DeVos Childrens Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment of what police called non-life-threatening injuries.
Jamestown Township firefighters assisted at the scene.
