UPDATE: The 19 year old victim of a near drowning in South Haven has died. The South Haven police department stated Friday that Jazmyn Patterson from South Haven, passed away at a Kalamazoo area hospital this past week.
SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 19-year-old near-drowning victim was rescued from South Haven’s South Beach, just before 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The 19-year old victim was pulled from the water by nearby good Samaritans in a small watercraft, according to South Haven Area Emergency Services’ executive director, Brandon Hinz. Civilian rescuers got the 19-year-old to shore where SHAES paramedics, firefighters, and South Haven police officers on scene administered advanced life support actions.
SHAES paramedics rushed the victim to Bronson Hospital’s South Haven location, and from there, the victim was airlifted to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo via AirCare.
Green flags had been flying at both South Haven beaches at time of incident. Surface water temperature was 62 degrees, according to SHAES officials.
