HOLLAND (PRESS RELEASE) — Windmill Island Gardens is set to reopen on Monday, June 15, 2020 — with some pandemic-related changes.
Windmill Island Gardens’ development manager, Matt Helmus, says that staff is excited to greet visitors for the first time in 2020.
While visitors are unable to enter the windmill at this time, he said, they can still get their picture taken near DeZwaan and enjoy the rest of the park’s 36 acres.
Visitors will be required to wear masks if they enter buildings, so are asked to come prepared for that. The park has a new cleaning regimen to ensure public-health safety.
Popular programs like the tulip dig and annual art contest are postponed, city officials says they hope to bring events back, as conditions allow. Weddings and events on the island are also canceled, for now, and will resume when restrictions are lifted
Visitors will find summer flowers, sounds from the Amsterdam street organ, and Dutch treats from the gift shop. But instead of personal tours of the DeZwaan windmill, visitors will watch a virtual tour on video, featuring miller Alisa Crawford.
For now, the antique children’s carousel is off-limits.
Prices are dropping temporarily, to $5 for visitors, with those 8 and under admitted free.
Windmill Island Gardens’ 2020 hours are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the last entry tickets sold at 5 p.m. Learn more at windmillisland.org.
