HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A two-vehicle crash in Allendale Township led to a HazMat call at 7:58 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2020
the Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies found the scene, involving a 2007 International dump truck and a 2016 Chevy Tahoe at the intersection of 68th Avenue and Lake Michigan Drive.
The investigation indicates a 62-year-old Allendale man, drive the dump truck west on Lake Michigan Drive, disregarded the red traffic signal and drove into the Tahoe’s path.
A 73-year-old Allendale woman had been driving the Tahoe south on 68th Avenue.
At the point of impact, the Chevy Tahoe hit the dump truck’s diesel tanks, causing 50 gallons of diesel fuel to spill onto the road. The collision then forced the Chevy Tahoe off the N/W side of the road way striking a power pole. A utility pole carrying electric wires fell onto a unoccupied Buick Enclave in a parking lot of the business on the intersection’s northwest corner. Police closed the westbound lanes of Lake Michigan Drive, just west of 68th, and re-routed traffic during the crash investigaton and clean up.
Assisting at the scene: Allendale Fire Rescue along with Ottawa County Hazmat Young’s Environmental for clean up.
No one was hurt, and the dump truck driver received a traffic ticket.
