HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Apparently Keith Van Beek has been doing a good job … and so too have been those sworn “to protect and serve” in the Tulip City.
On Wednesday night, the Holland City Council approved a new five-year deal with the City Manager following a recent review of his performance that was “positive,” according to a memo from City Attorney Ron Vander Veen. Van Beek’s initial two-year pact was set to expire at the end of this month. “I’m very pleased and honored to serve not only the Mayor and Council, but the community,” he said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” during his monthly appearance on Thursday. “Any success that we’ve had is because of the staff that we have here in the City of Holland.”
In addition, Council approved new collective bargaining agreements with unionized police officers and firefighters of the Holland Department of Public Safety, also before the current deal was set to expire at the end of this month. “The human capital that we have as an organization, and the men and women that work and represent the city, and serve the community, are the most important things,” Van Beek added.
The new pacts with the two unions are for three years, and the rank-and-file had already endorsed the agreement. Details are here for the police contract and here for the firefighters contract.
