Alvern Poest, age 74 of Zeeland went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, May 23, 2020 after a seven-month battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Mary; his children: Rick Poest of Zeeland, Karen and Keith Ykema of Hudsonville and Dawn and Robert Brinks of Hudsonville; grandchildren: Kourtney Ykema, Kaylie Ykema, Kaden Ykema and Logan Brinks; his sister Eleanor Poest of Zeeland; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Robert and Carol Verburg, Loren and Mary Verburg and Dale and Willa Verburg.
Alvern was a lifelong dairy farmer. He served on the board of the Michigan Milk Producers Association and the Zeeland Farmers CO-OP and was a board member of the West Michigan Vintage Tractor Club.
He was a member of Vriesland Reformed Church where he served on the consistory.
Private services will be held. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Vriesland Reformed Church, Paradise Bound Ministries or Spectrum Health Hospice and Palliative Care.
