HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 30th Ottawa County resident has died from COVID-19, according to county health officials, who say 625 people have tested positive for the virus. No details were released on the 30th person to die. So far, all but one woman in her 20s have had underlying conditions.
Nearly 45 are hospitalized and 191 are considered recovered. So far, 6,949 tests have been administered. If the 7.9 percent positive rate holds true for the county’s entire population of 291,830 (based on the 2019 U.S. Census estimate), would suggest more than 23,000 Ottawa County residents may have the virus. Eighty percent of those who get COVID-19 show few, if any, symptoms.
In Allegan County, where 185 people have tested positive for the virus, another 29 people have probable cases and county officials have monitored a total of 487 people. While two people have died to date, 27 are hospitalized, and 83 are considered recovered.
Based on Allegan’s percentage of 6.95 percent positive results from the 2,661 tests so-far administered, out of the county’s 118,081 residents, as many as 8,200 Allegan County residents may have the virus.
Allegan County officials formed a partnership with the Pullman InterCare office to provide drive-through testing. Limited appointments are currently available for Thursdays. Anyone unable to access testing should call Allegan County’s COVID-19 hotline at (269) 686-4546 to get screened for testing.
