HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Allegan County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a two-year-old child brought to Bronson Hospital with serious injuries on Saturday, May 9, 2020. The toddler died on Monday, May 11.
Police have interviewed several people about how the child got hurt, and indicated everyone has cooperated with law enforcement. At this time, Allegan County Sheriff’s Capt. Scott Matice said in an email to media, the death is considered suspicious.
Detectives are waiting on results from an autopsy before releasing any details.
The child has since been identified by police as Kayden Blackmer.
On Wednesday, the child’s father, David Holmes, told WOOD-TV his son had just turned 2 on May 3. He told the station he’d taken his son and 10-month-old daughter to Allegan General Hospital Saturday, May 9. He said both children were hurt, but Kayden, who was later found to have broken ribs and a collapsed lung, was unresponsive, and was airlifted to Bronson where he later died. Holmes told News 8 his daughter had a skull fracture and broken ribs but is recovering.
The case remains under investigation.
