SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A Lakeshore community hard hit by high water is trying to fight back.
This week, the city of South Haven is installing HESCO barriers at the Waste Water Treatment Plant and the South Beach Water Treatment in an effort to stem the rising waters. These high-priority infrastructure locations are among a number of spots in that Van Buren County municipality that has been affected by the rise of the Black River and of Lake Michigan.
These HESCO barriers are made of a collapsible wire mesh container and a heavy-duty fabric liner, for use as a temporary to semi-permanent levee or blast wall.
According to Department of Public Works Director William Hunter, “It is the city’s plan to leave these HESCO barriers in place until the high waters of Lake Michigan subside.”
