HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Summer camp can be a right of passage. For others it’s an adventure where kids are introduced to nature, music, crafts, horses or sports. But this summer, most camps officials are weighing the wisdom of gathering in residential or other large groups. And some families are adjusting their summer plans in response.
“We just couldn’t foresee a way for us to have camp in a way that kept the kids safe,” said K.J. Kelly, camp director at 4-H Camp Kidwell in Allegan County.
Camp Kidwell, like the Boy Scouts of Michigan, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and many others are canceling residential services this summer. Kelly and other directors are urging campers to learn online and seek other outdoor adventures with their families as the weather warms up.
