GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 35-year-old Holland man is not contesting charges stemming from a pair of fires last November.
In a deal with county prosecutors, Michael Mcneer pleaded “nolo contendere” last Friday to one count of third-degree arson and to being an habitual offender. Other arson counts were dropped in exchange.
Mcneer was apprehended four days after fire struck a house in the first 100 block of East 18th Street, causing major damage, and a business in the first 100 block of West 16th Street, causing minor damage, in the early morning hours on November 16th.
He was ordered held on a million dollars bond at the time, and remains in the Ottawa County Jail pending sentencing by Circuit Court Judge Jon Hulsing. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is usually treated as such during sentencing.
