HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Twenty three Ottawa County residents have now died from COVID-19 and 413 people diagnosed with the virus. So far, 4,402 tests have been administered.
More then 35 people are hospitalized; 103 are considered recovered.
Health department spokeswoman Kristina Weighmink said the four people who died include woman in her 80s, a woman in her 70s and two men, one in his 90s and the other in his 80s.
She said the four latest deaths are a sign of how pervasive the virus is in the community. She urged people to wear masks when in the public, as well as gloves when needed. She said frequent handwashing is essential. Masks should be worn over the mouth and nose at work or in any public place.
She encouraged people to find ways to celebrate Mothers Day without family gatherings, for everyone’s safety.
Allegan County health officials report 131 positive COVID-19 cases and two deaths. Do far, 25 people are considered recovered, with 159 people having symptoms of the virus being monitored. Allegan County is not releasing the number of people hospitalized.
Kent County health officials report 2,135 people with the virus, which has killed 41 of their residents.
