BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man is in the Calhoun County Jail after a police chase that spanned two counties.
Authorities believed the suspect was involved in an armed sexual assault and kidnapping incident that allegedly occurred earlier on Friday morning, so the Michigan State Police Paw Paw Post launched a vehicle pursuit that began in Kalamazoo County.
Troopers located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to stop it in Comstock Township, but the chase continued through several neighboring townships and into Battle Creek.
It eventually ended when Battle Creek Police deployed stop sticks, the suspect’s vehicle crashed, and the man fled on foot.
The 30-year-old suspect was located and arrested for possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and obstructing a police officer, and fleeing and eluding.
Authorities say additional charges could be filed after a further investigation.
Details on the suspect and the specific crimes have not been released at this time.
