WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – Should members of the White House’s Coronavirus Task Force testify before Congress?
President Trump has given his blessing to having Dr. Anthony Fauci and others go before the Republican-controlled Senate, but blocked task force members in responding to requests from the Democratic-controlled House. One GOP Representative, Oklahoma’s Tom Cole, already is on record as being opposed to this, and fellow Republican Bill Huizenga of Zeeland believes that it should be before current standing House committees.
“I don’t have a problem with them coming and testifying,” Huizenga said during his weekly “WHTC Morning News” interview on Thursday. “In fact, I think they should. The question is (whether) it’s going to be pulling them away from their other work. That is not necessarily appropriate, and those things have to be negotiated out.”
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on Thursday told reporters in his weekly briefing that a special oversight committee announced by Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be “only partisan” and a “political opportunity for Democrats to restructure the government.”
