HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Three more Ottawa County residents — a 60-year-old woman, an 80-year-old man, and a woman in her 20s have died from COVID-19. Health officials say the older two had underlying medical conditions but the woman in her 20s had no known underlying conditions. Their deaths bring Ottawa County’s total to 19 people killed by the virus, a 5 percent death rate.
Fourteen children under the age of nine have the virus; 37 people are hospitalized, according to county records.
Because many Ottawa County residents have been complying with the “stay home” order — the main reason, county health department spokeswoman Kristina Weighmink said, only 368 Ottawa County residents people with positive COVID-19 test results, though the death rate is more than double that of Allegan County’s 2 percent.
Allegan County health officials report 123 people with positive COVID-19 test results, 25 people suspected of having it, as well as nine people waiting on test results — and two deaths. There are a total of 24 individuals recovered.
Allegan County officials announced a deal with InterCare, Pullman to offer COVID-19 drive-through testing. Limited appointments are available for Thursdays. Call the ACHD COVID-19 hotline at (269) 686-4546 to get screened for testing.
