HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 64-year-old Byron Center woman died in an Allegan County crash on Thursday, April 30, 2020, according to a Michigan State Police spokesman.
The crash happened just before 2:45 p.m. Troopers from the Michigan State Police Wayland Post were called to the scene, at the intersection of 142nd Avenue and 40th Street in Overisel Township.
They found a crash between the woman’s compact car and a pick-up truck, which had a 42-year-old Dorr man at the wheel. Investigators believe the woman failed to stop at a stop sign, driving into the path of the pickup, which had been eastbound on 142nd Avenue.
The truck hit the driver’s side of the compact car. The crash sent the truck into a field, where it rolled.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pick-up truck driver went by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of multiple injuries from the crash.
Police say initial indicators suggest alcohol and/or drugs weren’t factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Overisel Township firefighters assisted the troopers at the crash scene.
