HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Although the COVID 19 situation has grounded many aspects of life to a halt, some things still need to be addressed.
One of those things is a spending plan for the fiscal year that begins on July 1st by the city of Holland. City Manager Keith Van Beek is expected to formally unveil the proposed budget during a City Council work-study session this evening that calls for no overall millage rate increase, but a nearly .12-mill “adjustment,” along with hikes in sidewalks levies and municipal capital improvements, along with a corresponding decrease in the debt service millage rate.
Mayor Nathan Bocks understands the nebulous nature of this year’s budget proposal. “One, most of that (planning) work had been done (prior to the COVID 19 outbreak),” he said during an appearance last week on “WHTC Talk of the Town,” “and we have absolutely no idea how we should change (the budget), based on COVID 19.”
