HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland police, called to an early morning home-invasion report, captured a suspect less than an hour later.
The resident called police at 6:20 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2020, after hearing someone in the house, and on checking, finding several items missing from the kitchen.
On arrival, police learned the alleged home-invader had made off with the victim’s vehicle, which had been parked in the driveway, according to Holland Police Capt. Keith Mulder.
Officers immediately began searching for the stolen vehicle, and found it being driven near 40th Street and Washington Avenue. As an officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect, who was driving, fled on foot. Police caught him a short distance away, according to Mulder, and items stolen from the victim’s home were recovered.
The 23-year-old suspect is a Holland resident and is currently lodged at the Ottawa County Jail facing charges of home invasion and unlawful driving away of an automobile.
Detectives continue to investigate this case today, as this suspect may be responsible for other recent crimes.
Holland Police advise residents to lock the doors to their house and vehicles, and call 911 if they observe suspicious activity.
