LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – State legislative Republicans are seeking public input into their “Open Michigan Safely” plan for restarting the economy that was brought to an abrupt halt due to the COVID 19 situation.
Unveiled last week, the proposal, “relies on measurable data points to serve as indicators of decreased risk,” according to Senate GOP members who came up with the initiative. “The proposal is structured in five phases that outline conditions in the state, suggest safe business operations, and propose guarded levels of public activity.”
First-term Republican Senator Roger Victory of Hudsonville admits that there are some aspects to his party’s plan that he’s not happy with. “It was critical to show some leadership for the state of Michigan,” he said during his monthly appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town” on Monday. “Here is an actual blueprint, instead of these ‘one offs’ and more anecdotal issues, that has some substance to build on, as well as having something that we can work with the medical community too for their input.”
The Open Michigan Safely Plan has also been forwarded Governor Whitmer, with the GOP leaders asking “her to respond prior to April 30 on how it can be incorporated into short- and long-term plans for Michigan.”
