HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Five members of the Hope College faculty are retiring this year: Isolde Anderson, professor of communication; Jean Bahle, assistant professor of theatre; Edward Hansen, professor of geology and environmental science; James Herrick, the Guy VanderJagt Professor of Communication; and Roger Nemeth, professor of sociology.
Nemeth retired at the end of the fall semester but has continued to work on research projects. Anderson, Bahle, Hansen and Herrick are all retiring at the conclusion of the spring semester. The five have taught at the college for a combined 152 years.
Hope President Matthew Scogin says there will be a loss.
“When we have faculty who are retiring, like the ones who are retiring this year, we wish the well in the next stage of their life of course, but it’s a hole,” he said.
Scogin says that despite tight budgets, he expects to replace all of the departing faculty members.
