HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — In recent days, rumors of police arresting people for going outdoors have popped up on social media, including WHTC’s Facebook page.
Although a Kent County judge has authorized police and health officials the right to detain individuals deemed a public-health threat of spreading COVID-19 but who refuse to self-quarantine.
“We are not randomly pulling people over to check, and have not arrested anyone for violation of the “stay home” rules,” said Holland Police Capt. Keith Mulder in an email to WHTC. “We are investigating many complaints about violations of the order, but most of them are related to people questioning if businesses are in violation of the order.”
There are a few exceptions, he said.
“We have dealt with some issues related to a positive test subject who was supposed to quarantine but was initially uncooperative with the order,” he said, “however we were able to find a place for that person to stay and be quarantined.”
