HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 46-year-old Elkhart, IN, man is in Allegan County Jail after being arrested by the Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET) North Narcotics officers in Allegan Township on suspicion of running a meth lab.
His name is being withheld pending arraignment on charges of operating and maintaining a methamphetamine laboratory, possession of methamphetamine, and for being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Detectives carried out a search warrant at 1569 Lincoln Road in Allegan Township on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.
During the search, detectives discovered a laboratory consisting of glassware and a large amount of dangerous chemicals. Evidence of methamphetamine production and evidence of suspected DMT (Dimethyltryptamine)/MDMA production were also located. In total, detectives removed approximately 200 pounds of laboratory chemicals and glassware from the residence.
SWET officers were aided on the scene by Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies,, U.S. Justice Department – Drug Enforcement officers, Michigan State Police emergency support officers and Wayland Post troopers, as well as City of Allegan police and firefighters.
The multijurisdictional task force SWET has operated in Southwest Michigan since 1981. SWET – North is dedicated to serving the specific needs of Allegan and Barry counties.
SWET is comprised of sworn law enforcement personnel from the Michigan State Police; deputies from the follow counties: Allegan, Berrien, Calhoun, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph; and police officers from Covert Township, Hastings, Kalamazoo Township, South Haven, and Sturgis.
