HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A basement fire seriously damaged a home at 49670 Second Avenue in Grand Junction, in Van Buren County’s northeast corner.
No one was hurt, according to fire officials.
Firefighters Allegan and Van Buren counties were summoned at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2020.
They found the basement fully involved in fire.
The homeowner told investigators the home lost power and he found the fire when he went into the basement. The home had working fire alarms.
The fire’s intensity limited firefighters’ access to the home.
Water had to be shuttled to the scene and then pumped several hundred feet from the roadway back to the property.
Mutual aid came from Lee Township, Bloomingdale, Bangor Community fire departments and South Haven Area Emergency Services.
The fire’s cause remains under investigation.
