ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Tuesday’s vote by the Legislature to not give Governor Whitmer a 70-day extension of Emergency Powers during the COVID 19 situation is more of having a say on the matter than anything else.
That’s according to first-term Republican Representative Brad Slagh of Zeeland Township, who voted with his fellow majority members in the House to only extend those powers through April 30th. “Having a tighter deadline makes us forced to look at it more often as a whole state, rather than simply as the Governor making that decision on her own,” he said during a brief Wednesday appearance on “WHTC Morning News.” “It’s wise for us to be engaged in this process as representatives from our districts.”
With thjs extension, Governor Whitmer could, as early as Thursday, extend her current “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order beyond the current April 13th expiration date.
