HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County public health officials are reporting 35 residents with COVID-19, as of Friday.. State numbers show Ottawa County has 37 cases, but county health officials say that’s because some cases are reassigned to other communities.
Nine Ottawa County residents are hospitalized.
One of those with the virus is Holland Township Trustee Russ TeSlaa, who works at Holland Hospital. He told The Holland Sentinel his mom, who lived in Kent County, died on April 1, 2020, from complications of the virus. She is one of 479 Michigan residents who have died after contracting COVID-19
There have been no deaths reported in Ottawa County.
In Allegan County six people have tested positive and 17 are waiting on test results.
Statewide 12,744 people have been diagnosed with the aggressive upper respiratory virus. In the U.S. 7,159 have died. More than 60,000 people have died, worldwide, since doctors first identified the virus late last year.
