VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The first Van Buren County resident to die from COVID-19 was been reported by local health officials.
The total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases has now reached 12 in the county, more than a week after the first positive test was reported on March 24th.
No additional information on the identity or health status of the resident who died has so far been released by the Van Buren Cass District Health Department.
Neighboring Cass County currently has 6 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and earlier this week notified the public of the first death related to the illness.
The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department reported 4 additional cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total to 34.
69 of the state’s 83 counties have positively tested residents, with the number of overall cases expected to rise dramatically in the coming weeks.
Michigan has the third-highest number of state residents with the virus in the country. At last reported, 10,791 individuals have tested positive and 417 people have died from the illness in the state.
