HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – If the effort to combat COVID-19 could be considered war-like, then a local effort for helping those affected could be appropriately described as “rapid mobilization.”
Care Ottawa County-dot-com sprung up last week when Governor Whitmer ordered K-12 schools closed as a result of the outbreak, with more than 40 organizations banding together around the website address. Mike Goorhouse of the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area says that the thrust of the initiative isn’t on health or business. “This is a place, and this coalition, has come together to try and coordinate ourselves as we deal with the human service, basic needs response related to this crisis,” he said during a Wednesday interview on “WHTC Talk of the Town.”
Links to volunteer opportunities, goods donations and financial giving are on the website, and Goorhouse added that the group is hopeful to maintain this initiative through and beyond the length of this health crisis.
