WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The proposed May 5th ballot in Ottawa County is shrinking as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Five school districts – Coopersville, Hamilton, Holland, Jenison and Zeeland – have had proposals taken off of that ballot. Hamilton, Jenison and Zeeland had separate bond questions totaling $263.2 million, while Coopersville, Hamilton and Zeeland had 18-mill non-homestead tax renewals before voters.
All of this is a result of the uncertainty about whether or not the election will take place, and as of right now, county clerks such as Justin Roebuck of Ottawa County are preparing for such a vote. “Whether or not the Governor decides to hold the entire election absentee, you still have the ability as a voter to cast an absentee ballot,” he said during a Wednesday interview on “WHTC Talk of the Town.”
The online application for absentee ballots is here for Ottawa County, and here for the state.
Still on the May 5th ballot are non-homestead tax renewal requests for Grand Haven, Hudsonville and West Ottawa schools, with the WO Panthers also asking for a .30-mill levy for its sinking fund.
