HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – As school districts across Michigan are on an enforced break due to the COVID-19 outbreak, addressing the educational needs of their students is just part of the current challenge.
Making sure that the youngsters aren’t going hungry during the week because they aren’t getting meals at school is something that educators statewide are emphasizing. Jason Craner, the chief spokesman for Holland Public Schools, said during a Tuesday “WHTC Talk of the Town” interview, “It’s not just stopping learning opportunities (during a school closure), it’s stopping food opportunities for a good number of our students.”
Holland has instituted a Monday-Wednesday distribution schedule, while neighboring West Ottawa is going on a Monday-Wednesday-Friday rotation. An online statewide map to where meals for children during this period of school closure is here.
